This morning we woke up to rain and extreme humidity, but nothing a scrumptious breakfast can’t fix. Next stop on our travel itinerary: Heading to the Pongwe region (where you will find the most amazing swimming beach), but not before I take a detour via Sultan Sands to go visit the clinic… 25USD and some probiotics later and Azao Resort and Spa here we come!
The 4* Azao Resort & Spa is under new management and now falls under the well-known DoubleTree by Hilton brand. It is currently undergoing renovations and even so, we could see that this hotel is going to be phenomenal once finished, true to the brand. What really stood out to me were the impressive, huge bathrooms! Always a favourite amongst honeymooners.
The next site inspection was a surprise, where we were lucky enough to visit a new resort called The Island, Pongwe. Built on a private Island and only opened in February 2018, this very natural and rustic resort is accessible by boat during high tide, fortunately, at our arrival, we could walk across to the Island as it was low tide.
This hotel has impressed me with the natural feel – even utilising the sea breeze rather than aircon!
More snacks before making our way back across the inlet, looking forward to spending the night at the beautiful 5* Melia Resort. With its well-manicured lawns, lots of activities and breath-taking views from the gorgeous infinity pool and inviting day beds on the beach, Melia is looking promising!
And did they deliver! We were treated to a live show of amazing acrobats with body movements that I still cannot comprehend. Another lavish dinner was enjoyed with the team and then it was off to bed to recharge for another day of finding gems in Zanzibar.
